Dear Fellow Democrat,
National policy does affect us in NW Illinois. We saw a sitting President, our President Biden, standing on a strike line with UAW members for the first time in history. That act along with the increasing strength of unions will have implications here in Stephenson County. Biden’s $1.2 trillion infrastructure package has required our Republican-majority Stephenson County Board to make decisions about where to spend those dollars. In addition, our neighbors are benefitting from cheaper health insurance with the recent record Affordable Care Act enrollment, and the cap on insulin prices affects our economy and puts more money in our pockets locally. These are just a few examples.
We all agree this year's national elections are among the most important of our lifetime . . . but how do they affect us locally? These are our takeaways from that question and our two main priorities this year.
We need to gain more seats on our County board and we must protect 17th District U.S. Congressman Eric Sorensen’s bid for re-election. Sorensen’s seat has been targeted as one the GOP can flip. We can’t let this happen.
With your monetary support of the Stephenson County Democratic party, we will work to be sure these priorities are met. Please consider attending our upcoming Force of Nature Fundraiser on March 1st. In celebration of Woman’s History month, we will be honoring some women in our county who have devoted many long hours to our party. The purchase of your ticket, and increasing your host level if you can, is important to us achieving our priorities. We encourage prepurchasing tickets but they will be available at the door. In addition, consider committing to volunteering this year.
Mike Frerichs, our Illinois State Treasurer, is our keynote speaker this year. If you have never met or heard Mike Frerichs speak, you are in for a treat. Don't miss the opportunity. Our county board candidates will also be attending, so please come and meet them.
DETAILS: Decide your Host Committee Level, pay online or mail a check. Your ticket(s) will be at the door unless we deliver them to your home before the event. Please be sure to add your phone number and your commitment level to your mail-in form or on the Act Blue comment section, if you pay online.
